Volleyball Fraternity league FIJI A1 Vs. ATO A

Before the game both teams talk strategy about who will be playing which position. ATO starts with the serve of set one. Fiji looks to have the height advantage with one person named Zachary Fenster  probably 6’8”, but ATO takes an early lead 3-0 right before Zachary has a monstrous spike and gets his team on the board (and he also had many more of those throughout the first game). Fiji looks to be pulling away but ATO is catching some lucky breaks. Jimmy Lam of Fiji also is a threat to be reckoned with. He is about 5’8” but he has tremendous jumping ability and spikes the ball with a lot of force. Both team have several good rallies throughout the first game. Both teams have athletic players so it will be very competitive. However, both teams have no subs so they might get tired. As long as Zachary stays close to the net ATO will have trouble scoring. The game goes back and forth until Fiji gets on a roll and wins it 25-17.
Before the start of the second game, both teams discuss strategy. Fiji starts with the ball for game two. This time Fiji gets out to a 3-0 lead then Ryan Shapiro of ATO is able to get his team on the board. Both teams looks to be having a good time on the court with great sportsmanship. ATO is able to get several good spikes this game and are able to hit the ball past Zachary. At one point the score was 12-8 and looked like Fiji was going to be pulling away but ATO had other ideas by putting up a fight trying to get the game close. ATO needed to try a bit harder because Jimmy’s hard-hitting power and jumping ability is too much for ATO to handle and Fiji is able to win the second set as well.
Looks like Fiji was able to win with the height advantage. According to Fenster of Fiji it was a much needed win, and having the height advantage defiantly played a part in the win. According to ATO they said “It was a competitive game but we didn’t play well enough to win but it was definitely a fun game. We had some trouble because we are all short and well they had one taller player so that was hard to play against.”

Flag Fooball Week 2 El Duderino vs Burnhau5

The game is scheduled for a 6 pm kickoff and the weather looks pleasant. According the weather report it’s supposed to be partly cloudy with temperatures in the low 70’s, 10 % precipitation 38 % humidity and winds from WNW at 9 mph. Both teams have a very nice and sociable warm up, doing some passing drills and discuss strategy about what defense and offensive plays to do etc.
Burnhau5 starts with the ball to start the game and on the first play, one of the players on El Duderino gets an interception by jumping up in front of the ball. Then five plays later El Duderino makes a 20 yard pass to Chris Doucette for a TD making the score 6-0 then goes for a one point conversion by a QB sneak and misses it with seven minutes remaining first quarter. After having some trouble completing passes Burnhau5 is able to complete a thirty yard pass to about the ten yard line, on the next play they are able to complete a pass to the end zone. Matthew Quiat is able to disrupt Brunhau5 from getting some momentum by intercepting the pass, though El Duderino is not able to do much with the ball and the first quarter ends 6-0. The second quarter starts with El Duderino having to punt the ball. While Brunhau5 is in control of the ball, they are able to make key passes and able to score on a QB sneak to tie the game 6-6 and miss the conversion with about seven minutes left in the half.  Now El Duderino decides to switch QB. Now John Witte is the QB and decides to make a deep pass down field, where a player from Brunhau5 waiting and intercepts the pass. They are not able to do much with the ball and the half ends 6-6.
During half time, both teams talk strategy and try to switch up their game plans. The second half beings with El Duderino with the ball and about four and a half minutes into the third quarter John Witte gets thrown a nice ten yard pass and then does a nice spin move to cut the defenders in two and is able to score making it 12-6. Kevin Bubar is able to make a pass to Matthew Quiat to make it 13-7. While Burnhau5 has the ball they look to be in trouble with a fourth down, but are able to convert on fourth down and score with a twenty yard pass for a TD making it 13-12. They are unable to make the conversion at the end of the third quarter. With about eight minutes left in the game being fourth quarter, El Duderino is able to make a pitch play and then throw to the end zone and able to score with a pass to Chris Doucette jumping in the air to make the catch and Matt Galosky makes the conversion 20-12. Burnhau5 has the ball  and Brain Cunningham (El Duderino) is able to get an interception.  Two plays later El Duderino is able to score from a pitch from Kevin Bubar and to Matt Galosky who throws to the end zone where John Witte jumps up and catching the ball, but El Duderino is unable to make the conversion. With two minutes left in the game, score is 25-12. Burnhau5’s first play after the TD is intercepted by Kevin Bubar with a lateral to John Witte. Then on El Duderino tries to get a conversion, but a player from Burnhau5 makes a diving catch to intercept the ball in the end zone. Last play of the game Burnha5 tries to lateral the ball to several players but John Witte being sneaky is able to get a hold of the ball and score a TD. The game ends 32-12 in favor of El Duderino.
Through out the game the centers for both teams were not really paying attention to much because after the QB said, “Go” the center waited like ten seconds before he hiked the ball, but both teams played a great game and they both had fun. It had to be exciting being Video Game of the Week for the first time ever. According to Doucette “Being Game of the Week was awesome and felt great, and my team played real well, and we have a stellar defense and good offense, so we will do great in the coming weeks.”

Flag Football Week 3 Soup-a-Stars vs Farve Dollar Footlong

Today’s showdown is brought to you by the Intramurals Recreation Department. It will be a bit cold this evening with temps of 50 degrees 10% chance of precipitation, 46% humidity and winds for NE at 4 MPH and mostly sunny. Soup –a-Stars and Favre Dollar Footlong have a nice warm-up with some passing drills and joking around.
Soup-a-Stars start with the ball. Garrett is the QB and does a nice job completing passes. With about three minutes into the game, Garrett passes to Vance Monroe who has to cut by two defenders to score and make it 6-0 Soup-a-Stars. A player of FDFL is able to stop Soup-a-Stars from making the conversion by intercepting the ball. With about two minutes, left in the first quarter FDFL John Mcdevitt makes a nice thirty yard catch down field. Then with about ten seconds left, Tara Gerke of FDFL is able to make a pass to John for a TD but they miss the conversion. That makes the score 9-6 at the end of first quarter. Second quarter starts with Soup-a-Stars having the ball. Three plays in Garrett is able to complete a 20 yard pass to Ray Zacharski and misses the conversion so the score is now 12-9 Soup-a-Stars. John Ausiander of FDFL is able to get a five-yard pass to make it fourth down. They decide to go for it but the pass gets intercepted by a player on Soup-a-Stars team who tries a lateral to a teammate but a player on FDFL who is playing heads up Defense is able to snatch the ball and return it for a touchdown with under two minutes left in the half. FDFL is able to make the conversion by Tara running it in to make the score 16-12 FDFL. The half ends with FDFL 16-12.
Third quarter starts with the ball and about the third play in Tara has some trouble and her pass gets intercepted. Then Garrett throws to Vance for ten-yard reception, and with five minutes remaining in third quarter Garrett completes a fifteen yard pass to Ray who leaps in the end zone to make the catch, making it 18-16 because they miss the conversion. Then first play after the TD, FDFL’s pass gets intercepted by Ray Zacharski who returns it thirty yards for a TD with some fancy footwork, then they make the conversion with a pass to Vance who has to leap up and make the catch making it 25-16 Soup-a-Stars. Then it looks like FDFL might score but Gage Childs has other ideas, intercepting the ball in the end zone as the third quarter comes to a close. That might have clinched the game right there. Starting the fourth quarter Soup-a-Stars are forced to punt. This is a very crucial part of the game for FDFL but it will be hard for them to score. Soup-a-Stars is playing stellar defense and sticking to the offence like spaghetti and meatballs. They are able to sack the QB twice and force a turnover. Soup-a-Stars will run the clock out winning 25-16 final score. The Soup-a-Stars must have had soup of Champions for dinner.
The game was very close throughout the whole game with the lead changing about three times. According to Monroe, “It felt great being GOTW and it was pretty nice accomplishment with us being down by four at the half and winning by nine. It was good. Yea I kind of did have some doubts about losing because we made some stupid passes by throwing to the other team. It was cool being video game of the week because I never knew this stuff happens, it is a pretty cool thing.” According to Gerke “Both teams played a good game and it was pretty cool being Video Game of the Week. Never knew intramurals ever did stuff like that.”

Volleyball Week 3 (8) Team Keith Stone vs (9)The Clams

This should be a very competitive game with both teams seeding being close. TKS has a nice warm up and stretch while The Clams arrive just moments before game time. TKS starts with the ball for the first set, but Sean Kelly of TKS cannot seem to get the ball over the net. Both teams also struggle to get going at first and the Clams get an early lead but that ends when Sean Kelly with a monstrous spike is able to get his team on the board. The first game is a back and forth game. TKS has several players who are very athletic and have great blocked shots and spikes. Matthew Duty of the Clams is able to keep his team in reaching distance with his nice blocked shots on several occasions. Ann Shomberg of TKS has excellent serving ability with her nice form. In the first game I believe Sean Kelly had about 4-5 spikes and Matthew Duty had about 5-6 blocked shots. However, that just was not enough to prevent TKS from pulling away and winning the first set 25-21.

The Clams start with the ball during the second set. Both teams still have trouble serving and getting the ball over the net. After a few minutes both teams start playing better and start having several good rallies. The score for the most part goes back and forth with TKS leading the way but The Clams are staying within a point or two until TKS scores six consecutive points with the help of Patrick Moxley, David Miller and Sean Kelly dishing up some spikes to keep the Clams from getting an advantage. Then I think TKS was getting a little excited and served a shot out of bounds, and then The Clams are able to get within two points of TKS, 16-14. TKS still had momentum, stretching their lead to 19-15. That’s when TKS just starts to pull away and it’s too much for The Clams to handle with Sean Kelly of TKS serving the winning point with an ace.

According to one of the players on TKS, “We put together a solid effort to get the job done, we felt pretty confident even though the game was close and I have faith in my team especially Sean Kelly. Yeah I thought it was going to be a close game because of how we both were seeded close together. We play the number 1 seed and we are pretty confident we’re going to win, because we are just awesome.”
