All Campus Championship

This is the first installment of this event I believe it went off with a bang. Everything went better than expected. The participants all looked like they enjoyed themselves and had a great time. Both games started very competitive and close. Before the game I talked to players on each team and they all were happy and excited to be playing in the ACC, however they would prefer to play in Ritchie or Comcast center because those have seats for fans to sit.

In the game FIJI A2 vs. Team Franchyze it looked like it might be an upset in the making FIJI A2 leading most of the first half over the 4 time defending champ Team Franchyze™. That game was close for all of the first half with a back and forth action, and it was a low scoring game having the halftime score 19-19. At half time of that game I talk to FIJI A2 and they were confident about playing and were not scared or discouraged by the strength and quickness that Team Franchyze™. The second half started and Team Franchise™ went on a run, turned up the tempo on offence, and played more aggressively on defense; and it was too much for the FIJI A2 to handle and Team Franchyze™ was able to pull away with a commanding lead and win the game, 51-34. Even though FIJI A2 lost, they played with a lot of determination and confidence and heart and gave Team Franchyze™ a tough game.

In the mount Olympus vs. Lambda Chi Alpha, this game was also a close game for much of the first half, but I think the Mount Olympus just wanted it more than the Lambda Chi Alpha by playing with more determination and skill, I believe the half time score was a 5 point lead for mount Olympus. Just like in the Men’s A champ game the same thing happened in this game by mount olympus team going on a tremendous run and pulling a way, not leaving a chance for the opponent to have a chance to make a comeback by making it 67-33.

During half time of the ACC we had a 3 point contest, foul shot contest, and Hot Spot contest. The winners of these would receive a T-Shirt form the Intramural Office. It looked like a success and if you missed this exciting event, make sure you come to it next year for a great time. The participants I talked to said this was a great idea to have, it was a lot of fun. I hope that this will be done every year because the participants really enjoyed themselves and we also had a great turnout for the event, it was awesome.

All in all I think this event was a tremendous success and thanks to the teams who played in the ACC, thanks to the officials who refereed the games, thanks to the Supervisors who were able to be there and make sure this event was a success, thank you to the score keepers to help keep score. Most importantly Thank you Mary Kate Sullivan and Kurt Klier for making this event possible, because without them this event would never have happened.

Superfox vs Basketball Globe Trotters

This is the first game of the season, so I do not know what to expect. However, it looks like the Trotters maybe at a disadvantage because they have many short players while Super Fox has a bunch of tall players. The key in intramurals is to watch for the hustle players because they could potentially be the game changers. Super Fox is able to take a 2-0 lead while the Trotters are having some misfortune scoring. However, seven minutes into the game the Trotters are able to get their first points of the game. Even though the Trotters are being dominated and over powered both on offense and defense, they look like they have some athletic players who could become dangerous come playoff time. If the Trotters are able to take their time to shoot, they can make more shots, however that seems to be a problem with Super Fox playing very aggressively and forcing the Trotters to hurry their shots. The first half ends with Super Fox having a commanding lead 36-8.

The Trotters come out in the second half looking to be lazy, however, they manage to make the first 2 points of the half and it looks like they might be able to make a comeback while Super Fox is building me a house with all the bricks they are throwing up. That is still not enough for the Trotters to come back in this game. The Trotters keep fighting and not giving up which is a good sign for games to come. However, with the height advantage in favor of Super Fox and they’re dominating the boards and second chance points. The game ends with a final score of 61-27.

Overall, Super Fox looks to be staked with some key players that will help them through the season. As for the Global Trotters, they also look good. If they just get in a position where they can take their time and shoot the ball then they will be very dangerous. If they are playing up tempo and rushing their shots, that will most certainly hurt them.

Krystal Klier vs Coon and Friends

Krystal Klier looks like the clear favorite lead by the awesome Mark Comer who loves winning more than anything, but they may be in some trouble with having to start the game with four players. Just after tip-off more players for KK arrive so we will hopefully have a competitive ball game.

Both teams have trouble scoring in the early going by throwing a lot of bricks, however, three minutes into the game KK scores. KK has several players that are good free throw shooters and so does CF which keeps the game close by both teams not missing a free throw in the first half. Matt Miller of CF looks to be the go to guy because he is quick and aggressive and doing most of the scoring for his, but if CF wants to stay in this someone else needs to take some initiative and help Miller with scoring. KK does a nice with passing the ball around at several points making sure each player on their team touches the ball at least once before taking a shot, I like that sportsmanship. The score remains tight through out the first half. Matt Miller looked unstoppable in the first half, but #31 on KK makes a buzzer beater to make the half time score 25-21 KK.

At half time, Mark says, “score more points than the other team to win the game.” Not much to talk about in the second half because Matt Miller must have gotten tired from all the hard work he did in the first and just couldn’t really buy a bucket and KK took advantage and went on a scoring run and CF couldn’t keep up and KK turned up the heat. The game ends with KK winning 56-39

Briggs vs Hungry Hungry Hippos

Briggs starts with the ball and about two minutes into the game HHH is able to score to make it 1-0. Briggs does a nice job moving the ball around and passing and is able to tie the game up at 1-1 3:50 mark. Then on some bad misfortune on HHH, part Briggs is able to take the lead 2-1 6:03 mark. With some fancy footwork of Matteo he is able to tie the game up a 2-2 6:48 second mark. Then it looks like HHH wants to turn the intensity up by taking the lead 3-2 at the 7:13 mark. Briggs has some chances to tie the game but are not able to connect. At the 11:48 mark, HHH is able to score again this time an assist from Matteo to make it 4-2. Halftime score is 4-2 HHH.

The second half, HHH starts with the ball and 3:22 into the second half Sonia of HHH is able to score to extend their lead 5-2. Then with about four minutes, left in the game Sonia is able to score again with an assist from Matteo to make it 6-2. That is how the game ends 6-2 in favor of HHH. Both teams looked like they play a good very aggressive game but the HHH looked to be the hungrier team won.

After the game I caught up with Matteo and he was very excited to being Game of the Week for the third time, he was happy for the victory. Briggs are the defending Champs for outdoor Coed and Men’s soccer, come playoff time this could be the team to beat
